WHAT IS KiDS?

Established in 2014, KiDS is Hong Kong's first online designer childrenswear consignment store and a unique social enterprise. KidsDressSmart, besides promoting a circular ecomy to preserve natural resources and protect our planet,  has a strong philanthropic focus.  We aim aim to raise funds for children’s charities through the sale of pre-loved children's wear.

We give parents an opportunity to access new and like-new children’s clothes from luxury children’s brands at up tp 90% discount and to sell the clothes their children no longer need. By eleminating waste and extending the lives of the clothes, we aim to create a community that strives to protect the environment and help people less fortunate.

As a consignment store, we sell your goods for you and take commission for every sale. You submit the items you would like to sell, we price them, photograph them, list them on our online platform, and manage all sales distribution. Once the item has been sold and delivered (and not returned) the sale price (minus our commission) is paid to you: you will receive 50% of the proceeds or 55% in KiDS credit.

What makes us stand out from more typical consignment stores is that when your donate your clothes to raise money for children’s charity, we at KidsDressSmart  add an additional 10% of sale proceeds and give them to the charity of your choice. In this way, 60% of sale proceeds are donated to children’s charity. KiDS will receive the remaining 40%, and this will be used to fund operational costs and build the KiDS platform so that we can continue to grow and fulfil our vision to develop a sustainable and socially committed enterprise

Whether you want to generate extra cash for yourself or for the benefit of others, KiDS is the ideal choice.  In some cases, items may not successfully sell on the KiDS website. Unsold items will be donated to families who are in need via local charities. You really have nothing to lose yet a whole lot to offer

KEY QUESTIONS

Why shop at KiDS?

KiDS allows you to shop smartly, fashionably and responsibly:

Smartly: You have a chance to quickly and easily purchase high-quality children’s clothing and accessories at a fraction of the recommended retail price (RRP) at the click of a button. You simply choose the items you wish to purchase, and they will be delivered safely to your door. It’s a lot like shopping via a high-end online retailer; however, you can enjoy savings as high 90% off their prices. KiDS operates a stringent product review process, which means you can rest assured the items you buy from us are of a high quality.

Fashionably: We focus solely on genuine, high-quality children’s clothing from leading designers and kids’ fashion houses. Keep your kids looking their best without breaking the bank.

Responsibly. By shopping with KiDS, you reduce environmental waste by extending the lives of the items that have been previously owned by other families. In itself, this is already wonderful as we all have a responsibility to protect the environment. Most importantly, you participate in a social responsible business as for the majority of the  items you buy, a considerable amount of the revenue go some way toward supporting those in need.

Why should you choose KiDS to sell clothes on your behalf?

The more traditional resale channels can be cumbersome and difficult to navigate. It can be very time consuming to list and sell items due to the many different tasks involved, including photographing the goods, researching a suitable price, managing emails with buyers and interested parties, delivering the items, etc. We do all this for you, and more! In addition to reducing environmental waste by extending the lives of your children’ clothes, you also contribute to worthy causes at no extra cost.  It not just about ensuring your old and unused items go to a good home as opposed to festering away in teh wardrobe, it’s also about being part of a powerful social project.

Why donate your clothes to KiDS?

When you give your clothes to the retail shops of charities like Oxfam, the clothes are often sold for very little, even when they are designer or high-quality items. This is because such charity shops, which are usually focused on the lower end of the market, typically attract a different type of buyer, perhaps one who is on the lookout for inexpensive second-hand items as opposed to designer branded goods. We differ from the traditional charity and consignment stores because we focus solely on high-end brands, actively aiming to maximise the value that can be generated from the sale of your children’s unused or unwanted designer garments—effectively matching like-minded sellers with buyers. Through our unique approach, we aim to have an even greater impact on social causes, charitable programs, and the environment. When you donate your clothes to KiDS, 60% of the sale price will go to your selected charity or our charity partners.

How do I sell or donate my clothes to KiDS?

Simple! Here’s how. Click on either the Sell or Donate buttons, then click on Schedule A Free Pick Up and complete the online form (ID number, name, email, etc.) before choosing a suitable time and date at which the items can be collected from your home or office. We advise you to opt into the Rest Assured Return Service and to include the associated fee of HK$50 if you would like your items to be returned to you in the event they don't meet our requirements or do not sell. Fill up any disposable bag with items that meet KiDS’ Quality Standards, include the form with your information in the bag, and make sure someone is home to hand over the goods at the selected pick-up time. We will take care of the rest. You can sit back and relax while we do all the hard work. Once we have successfully sold and delivered your item, you will be paid 50% commission (paid via PayPal or HSBC). Alternatively, if you wish to donate your items to charity, make sure you mark the charity of your choice on the online form, then relax in the knowledge that when your no longer needed goods are sold, 60% of the price at which they were marked on KiDS platform will make a positive difference to the lives of those in need.

How much will I earn from the sale of my goods?

Sellers are paid commission to the value of 50% of each sale (via their PayPal or HSBC account) or 55% in KiDS credit on our website. To get an idea of how much your products may generate, take a look at some of the goods we currently have listed.

How much do charities earn from the sale of my donated clothes?

When you decide to donate your clothes, your share of the commission will be paid directly to the charity of your choice or one of our partner charities. As KiDS will donate 10% of the assigned sale value of the clothes, your contribution in combination with ours will mean that 60% of the sales revenue will go to charity!

Our online store attracts generous supporters who are happy to give their share of the sales revenue to benefit children’s charities. We can all make the difference together!

How often does KiDS add inventory?

How long will it take for my item to be shipped? How is it delivered?

International orders are typically delivered by DHL within 7-14 working days of the date the order was placed.

If you are unhappy with any item (except swimwear and underwear) you purchased from us, please contact us within 7 days of the delivery date providing full details of the reason for your complaint. We will arrange to collect the clothes and, after inspection, will refund you the full amount paid provided the item is in the original packaging, unworn and unwashed since the time of delivery to you. If you have missed the seven-day deadline, unfortunately, you will not be eligible for a refund. However, do not hesitate to send us the clothes and we endeavour to sell them for you.

Please contact us, and we will endeavour to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

What can I do if I suspect an item I purchased is counterfeit?

SELLING QUESTIONS

How do I Sell or Donate my clothes?

Simple! Here’s how. Click on either the Sell or Donate buttons, then click on “schedule a free pick up”, fill up the online form before choosing a suitable time and date at which the items can be collected from your home or office. We advise you to opt in to the Rest Assured Return Service and to include the associated fee of HK$50 if you would like your items to be returned to you in the event they don't meet our requirements or do not sell. Fill up any disposable bag with items that meet KiDS’ Quality Standards, include the form with your information (ID number, name, email, etc.) in the bag, and make sure someone is home to hand over the goods at the selected pick-up time.

Which items can I sell or donate through KiDS?

We accept children's clothing, accessories (hats, mittens, belts, etc., but no underwear) and shoes that are for newborns through to children aged ten years of age.

All items must comply with our 10-point checklist and brand list.

While we do not apply restrictions on the seasonality of the products we accept for sale, we do take every opportunity to remind sellers than seasonal items do tend to sell faster during their corresponding season.

What if I have some high-end items are not on KiDS accepted brand list?

Not all the brands we will accept for sale on KiDS feature on our Brand List. Besides international brands, every country has its own homegrown brands, such as Nanos from Spain or Il Gufo from Italy that might now always be known abroad. It is, therefore, highly probable that we have missed some relevant names off this list. As such, we are happy to accept other high-quality brands we have not listed. To confirm whether your goods are eligible for sale on the KiDS platform, please email us with all the details at sales@kidsdresssmart.com, and we will perform an initial review of the items and let you know if you can send them to us/pending a full quality inspection upon receipt of them.

What do I include in the bag for pickup and how should the items be prepared?

Ensure all items are freshly washed and pack them neatly in a disposable bag. Print the form that is available on our website, complete all the required details (including name, email, and PayPal address) and place it in the bag with the items you are selling. While there is no minimum requirement in terms of the number of items you can sell, we do recommend that you include at least two or three items to maximise efficiency and reduce your environmental footprint (more pick-ups incur more driving and unnecessary costs). We have reduced our commission so that KiDS can always give 10% of the sales revenue to charity. Collecting is a cost; as such, the more items you send us at once, the more efficient and cost-effective the process will be. There is also no maximum amount of items you can send at any one time; however please make sure all products comply with our requirements and that the bag is securely closed to ensure no items are lost.

When and where does KiDS pick goods up in Hong Kong? Can I drop off them instead?

The collection times and locations within Hong Kong Island are flexible and can be scheduled through the online booking forms. However, if you require collection from an outlying island or area, such as Discovery Bay, Lamma Island, or the New Territories, please contact us directly to arrange a convenient collection point on Hong Kong island. Some of our charity partners across Hong Kong have agreed to accept drop-offs (click here). Please read through our criteria carefully to ensure that the items you wish to sell or donate meet KiDS standards.

How can I give my clothes to KiDS if I live outside Hong Kong?

If you are based in Paris, London, Milan or Singapore and have items you wish to donate to charity, please contact us. We have a comprehensive network of charity-focused individuals who will make sure the goods are will be delivered to KiDS in Hong Koon so they can be sold online to raise money for the benefit of the charities KiDS supports.

How do I know my items have been received? When will KiDS list my items on the website?

Once we have received your items, we will send you a cinfirmation email. KiDS will go through the items you send us to select the suitable ones, we will then refresh and photograph them. All items will be listed for sale on the KiDS platform within 1 week of receipt. Within this timeframe, you will be notified of the items we are unable to accept.

What happens if the clothes I send do not pass KiDS’ brand and quality standards test?

You will be notified of the items we do not accept for sale on KiDS within 1 week of collection. Unaccepted items will be donated to one of our partner children’s charities unless you have opted in to our Rest Assured Return Service. If you don't opt for this service and hence implicitly have accepted to give away your unsold or unaccepted goods to some of the local charities in need of clothes we work with, we would like to thank you on behalf of the families and children who will benefit from your donation. Our decision as to whether to accept items for sale on KiDS is final.

What if I want to sell some clothes for my benefit and give others to charity?

Prepare two disposable soft bags, and pack the charity donations separate from the goods you wish to sell for your own benefit. Download two forms (one from Sell and the other from the Donate buttons from KiDS website: Include the corresponding form with all your details (name/email/PayPal address) in the correct bag. Place both bags in a larger bag so we only collect one large bag. If you have chosen the Rest Assured Return Service, include the insurance fee of HKD50 in an envelope (cheque or cash) in the bag for the items you would like to insure. We will treat this order as two separate bookings; as such, you will need to purchase two “Rest Assured Return Service” insurance policies if you would like to insure both.

What if I forget to enclose my details in the bag?

If we receive bags of goods that are not accompanied by the slip of the completed KiDS form, it will be very difficult to know who to distribute the item sales revenue to. In the first instance, we will try to track who the bag belongs to by reviewing our pick-up schedule. However, this may not be effective. In the event that you have forgotten to include the slip with details and that we cannot retrieve/track the package origin, we will have no choice but to assume that the bags have been donated. The seller’s share of the income from the sale of these goods will go directly to charity.

If the items I send are accepted, how long will they remain posted on the KiDS website?

Items remain listed for at least 90 days, after which, we reserve the right to apply further discounts to entice buyers. If discounting the items is unsuccessful, we may decide to delist the product. If you have opted into the Rest Assured Return Service, we will return any delisted items to you. If you have not opted into this service, we will donate the items our partner charities.

What is it exactly the Rest Assured Return Service? How much does it cost? How do I pay for it?

The Rest Assured Return Service acts as a form of insurance. When you opt into this service, we guarantee that any items that are not accepted for sale or are not successfully sold on the KiDS platform are returned to you. The insurance costs 50 HK$. If you would like to subscribe to the Rest Assured Return Service, please click ‘yes’ to Return Insurance when you book your pick-up and include 50HK$ in cash or cheque in an envelope in the bag. We strongly recommend you chose this service if you have any particular attachment to the items you are interested in selling.

Does KiDS issue promotion codes to buyers? What’s happens to my earnings when promotion codes are applied?

Where necessary, we offer promotions and discounts to increase the chances that an item will sell. A promotion acts in much the same way as a discount. When the prices of items are reduced, both the seller and KiDS will earn less money from the sale.

How does KiDS determine promotional prices? Do I have any input on markdown prices? How do sales and promotion prices impact my earnings? The price at which we list the item for sale is determined by conducting research and examining the condition of the item. Items that have tags and original packaging will tend to be of a higher value, as too will newer items. The prices we set for items are non-negotiable. Regardless of the price at which an item is sold, the commission split is set: sellers receive 50% of the sales revenue. We always welcome feedback from both buyers and sellers. If you would like to discuss the retail price with us, please contact us at sales@kidsdressmart.com.

How will KiDS promote the items I donate or offer for sale on the KiDS website?

KiDS employs various social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. to promote and market the products that are for sale on the website and to highlight the philanthropic work we complete.

Our marketing team is in contact with online media sites like Sassy Mama, Little Steps Asia, etc. to enhance the visibility of what we do and the items that are available for sale.

We also organise pop-up shops, often in schools and on the charities’ premises, to promote the sale of our items. In fact, although the items are predominantly sold online, we also go to significant effort to ensure that customers have an opportunity to experience the quality of the items that are sold on our platform for themselves.

How can I help facilitate the sale of the items I no longer need (Sale or Donate)?

Spread the word about KiDS and help us become a larger community. Positive word of mouth will help us to sell your items faster. To increase the visibility of your products, please use the social share icons that appear with your item to promote them directly on your Facebook, Instagram, twitter accounts.

Does KiDS accept past-season or excess stock directly from brands?

If your brand meets KiDS standards, we would be happy to meet with you to discuss how we can help you sell your excess or past-season stock. Please contact us at sales@kidsdresssmart.com for further details.

PAYMENT QUESTIONS

If I have decided to sell my clothes, how much will I receive?. Will KiDS provide an update on the sales progress?

KiDS keeps things simple: Sellers receive 50% of the proceeds of each sale. You will receive an email confirmation following each successful sale. How much you earn in commission will depend on the price at which the item is sold. If you would like a good indication of what your items may be worth, take a look at some of the listings that are currently active on the KiDS site.

Once my items have sold, when and how can I expect payment?

Proceeds will become available within 15 days of sale. You can receive these as credit on your KiDS account or can choose to receive the money via PayPal or HSBC (further details are provided below). If you choose to accept the payment as a credit on KiDS, you will receive a 5% bonus.

If you choose to receive the proceeds of the sale as opposed to a KiDS credit, you have two main options available:

      1) HSBC account: If you would like to receive the funds into your HSBC account, please provide us with your account details when you complete the KiDS seller form. Payments will be deposited into your HSBC account within 15 days of the sale.
      2) PayPal: If you would like to receive the funds into your PayPal account, please provide us with your PayPal address when you complete the KiDS seller form. The payment will be deposited into your account within 15 days of the sale.

If you do not have an HSBC or PayPal account, please email us at sales@kidsdresssmart.com and we can discuss alternative options with you.

How can I withdraw my earnings from PayPal?

If you have a PayPal account, you will need to link this with your regular bank account by logging in to your PayPal account and selecting my account > link a bank account in Hong Kong. Once you have linked the account, you can withdraw any funds that are deposited into your PayPal account by signing into the PayPal platform and selecting the “withdraw” option.

If my item is returned, will I still receive my commission? Will KiDS re-list the item?

If an item is returned, you will not receive your commission. It is for this reason we wait 15 days weeks after the completion of the sale before administering payments to sellers. Your item will be immediately re-listed once we have received it and verified that it is the same condition in which it was shipped to the customer.

DONATING CLOTHES AND CHARITY–RELATED QUESTIONS

If I decide to donate my clothes, what will KiDS do with the proceeds? When will the charities receive the income generated from sales?

The money generated by KiDS will be allocated to the various children’s charities we have selected. The majority of these are located in Hong Kong or Asia. Money will be pooled, and payment will be made on a monthly basis to the charities we support.

How do I know my donations will reach the right charities? Why have selected mainly Hong Kong- and Asia-based charities?

We are committed to ensuring all donations are carefully distributed to the charities selected by our customers. It is for this reason we keep the list of charities we support to a manageable number. We feel it is right to work closely with charity in our proximity, not only to make a direct impact where we live, but also because it enables KiDS to better monitor how the donations are used by seeking feedback from the institutions to track how the donated money has been invested. This will enable us to identify how our work has specifically benefited various communities.

Can I choose a different children’s charity at the time of registration?

We are always interested to learn more about the charities you would like us to consider supporting. If there is a particular charity or organisation that you would like to support, we will try our best to accommodate you.

How can I be sure that the money will go directly to the charities?

We have sought advice from multiple non-executive directors and advisors who are known for their commitment to charitable causes: Michelle Paisley and Shirin Staerke. Both of these individuals have been working with charity organisations for many years and are well-known figures in Hong Kong’s not-for-profit sector. We have also enlisted the services of Francesca Bampo, whose fashion expertise will be of enormous benefit to our work.

Shirin Staerkle: Co-founder of TwoPresents, a social enterprise that is focused on raising money for charities by encouraging people to “share” their Birthday present money with others. So far, TwoPresents have raised over HK$2M for charitable causes.

Michelle Paisley: Board Member and Treasurer at The Women's Foundation. Michelle is a highly respected business leader who is passionate about leveraging new and disruptive technologies and supporting projects that help educate and tackle inequality from an early age. Michelle has experience in fundraising for new businesses, running businesses and has strong networks in Hong Kong. She has partnered with charities, and is involved in the corporate governance of charitable organisations/NGOs. She is a strong supporter of women-led businesses, particularly those that have a social angle.

Francesca Bampo: Regional Marketing Manager W&FJ at Chanel. Francesca has been working in luxury retail for over 20 years. She is a passionate supporter of children’s causes and keen to provide her marketing expertise to support this project

Why should I give through KiDS instead of giving them directly to a charity?

When you give your clothes to charities like Oxfam, the clothes are often sold for very little, even when they are designer or high-quality items. This is because such charities typically attract a different type of buyer, perhaps one who is on the lookout for inexpensive second-hand items as opposed to designer branded goods. We are different from the traditional charity consignment stores because we actively aim to maximise the value that can be generated from the sale of your children’s unused or unwanted designer garments—effectively matching like-minded sellers with buyers. Through our unique approach, we aim to have an even greater impact on social causes, charitable programs and the environment.

How do I set up notifications to ensure that I don't miss out on postings of my favourite brands on KiDS?

We understand how time consuming and frustrating it can be to spend hours searching through hundreds of items for that one listing you’re interested in. For this reason, we’re happy to let you know when an item that is aligned with your interests is offered for sale. Email us (sales@kidsdresssmart.com) with details of the brands or items you are looking to purchase, and we will send you email alerts when items come into stock that match your search criteria. Once you have registered, you can rest assured that you’ll never miss out on anything again. The more information you can provide us, the better!
